A very well maintained yacht

The quality of an initially well built sailboat is probably more defined by maintenance, than by age. Recent maintenance work comprises:

​

  • All 6 major curved acrylic windows replaced and re-caulked. (This removes the single largest problem you will probably face when buying a second hand 42DS)

  • Underwater hull taken down to old epoxy and checked for osmosis, added 5 layers of new epoxy and full Hempel Silic One treatment

  • Cutlass bearing and Volvo drive shaft gasket replaced

  • Rudder taken off and checked for rudder bearing wear

  • Major through-hull fittings and valves replaced

  • Design flaw on transom fixed; replaced old plywood on transom with fiberglass and replaced teak on top with synthetic flexiteek

  • Leaking stanchion bases re-caulked

Equipped for both summer and winter in the Med

We prefer sailing off-season, so we equipped Calacimbre for all season sailing and living on board. The following features provides this ability;
 

  • Full weather proof cockpit enclosure

  • 400w solar panels with Lifepo4 batteries and inverter

  • New and very comfortable mattresses

Calacimbre

""Calacimbre" is Spanish for "lullaby", pointing to the fact that she was initially imported to Gran Canaria in 2007, and sailed there as a private yacht until 2022. She has never been chartered, has only been lightly sailed, and is in exceptional condition. We bought her in 2021, and sailed her to Croatia where she now is berthed. The following features proves her versatility:
 

  • Airconditioning

  • In-mast furling

  • Bow thruster

  • Main, Genoa and heavy weather sail in good condition

  • One electric winch for furling, 3 manual winches

  • Raymarine electronics

  • 54 HP Yanmar diesel, 900 engine hours

  • Fixed propeller

  • Teak in cockpit, but NOT on side decks. (Keep in mind that original teak deck on comparable boats will unevitably cost you plenty of worries and/or expenses)

  • Other than that, she holds the safety and comfort features you will expect of a go-anywhere cruiser. And the items you would expect to fail after 20 years have indeed been renewed

Norwegian flag

She was transferred to Norwegian flag in 2014 and VAT status remains unpaid. For non-EU citizens the yacht can easily be kept on temporary import in the EU, and VAT needs not to be paid. For EU citizens it is just to pay VAT on top of the agreed price. She is registred in the official Norwegian ship regristry NOR, and may be transferred to any flag or regristry. Marina berth in Murter, Croatia is pre-paid until 1st of April 2027

  • Comfortable mattress with an added extension that makes two sleep in comfort in fore-cabin (2023)

  • Candy top loaded washing machine (2024). It connects to shore water and runs on 240V.

 

VAT STATUS

​

The boat never left the EU (except for entering international waters) , but VAT status is never the less unpaid.  It was imported to the Canaries and 7% sales tax was paid by the first owner. The Canaries are a free trade zone outside of the EU VAT cooperation, and does not claim VAT. From 2022 it was moved to Croatia via Italy, and has been kept under EU VAT exempt for temporary import (which is renewed every 15th  month).
